Welcome to Halos of Home, my podcast where I, Serena Izmirlian, explore what home is to friends in their twenties and thirties while we’re both exploring Armenia for a short time. I find it beautiful that humans are tasked with creating a home for themselves, and that this changes with time so I have dedicated time to exploring this with friends.

Episode eleven involves my friend Romeo Azizian from Los Angeles. He is a software engineer and within the last month, created the comedy club HahaHayastan which promotes English standup comedy in Armenia.

During our chat he ponders what wellbeing means to him, what lies behind his desire for financial stability, and we discuss our differing perspectives on whether everything happens for a reason. Romeo summarises towards the end of the interview one big lesson he's learnt over the years which is to maintain hope and resilience through it all.

My aim is that all you listeners will consider what home means to you currently and how it has evolved, so ponder this while listening to Romeo's ideas.

During episode nine I chatted with Gohar Ghazaryan who was born in Armenia and moved to France in her childhood. She is currently a law student and favours spending time with her family in her free time.

Our conversation touches on hospitality as solidarity, the attitude to the law in Armenia, and my favourite subject discussed was considering the difference between Diasporan Armenians with roots in eastern Armenia, and those with roots elsewhere.

My aim is that all you listeners will consider what home means to you currently and how it has evolved, so ponder this while listening to Gohar's ideas.

For our tenth episode I converse with Elin Aghakhani who grew up in Iran and moved to the United States in her teenage years. She is a medical student and describes herself as having a vivid imagination.

During our time together we touch on her journey of moving across countries, the freedom she was required to sacrifice growing up in Iran, her social transformation while in Armenia, the rebellion of fashion and finding peace in death. At the end of the interview she shares a message to her future self one year from now, reading an excerpt from the Persian poem 'Ghazale Shomareye 571' to her.
